I was Titania in his "Thyme of the Season" ("Midsummer" sequel) and I'm SUPER-CHARGED to get to play with another of his hilarious, clever, and insightful scripts! (OC alumnus Rich Orloff is good like that, too. Get your giggle on at RichOrloff.com!)

Virtuoso trumpeter and grandson of the late Doc Cheatham, Theo Croker ‘07 studied with Donald Byrd, Marcus Belgrave, and Billy Hart at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. Of his pupil, Donald Byrd once said, "I would place Theo in a class of musicians who will redirect the flow, change and alter the current of today’s New Jazz." Croker’s first album, The Fundamentals, was recorded with a grant from the Presser Music Foundation.

Wycliffe Gordon is a musician, conductor, and composer who performs hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz for audiences ranging from heads of state to elementary school students. He twice received the Jazz Journalist Association’s Award for Trombonist of the Year.

The Jimmy Cobb Quartet is led by celebrated jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb. The last surviving player of Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue session, Jimmy Cobb has worked extensively with a wide-range of artists. His timing, unique style, and unsurpassed experience have earned Cobb the reputation as a legendary statesman of jazz.

Drummer Winard Harper continues to innovate musically while remaining reverential to his predecessors. He is known for his prowess with a drum set as well as the balafon, the West African equivalent of the marimba.

For more than sixty years, Benny Powell has been the consummate sideman, playing with Lionel Hampton, the Basie Band, and the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra. The versatile trombonist plays across styles and genres. He teaches at The New School for Jazz and the Performing Arts.

Aug. 29 - The Theo Croker ‘07 Quartet featuring Marcus Belgrave

OFFER AN OBERLIN STUDENT A WINTER TERM INTERNSHIP
Sponsored by the Office of Career Services

Please consider offering a Winter Term internship to a current Oberlin student. A Winter Term internship (the month of January) presents an opportunity for you to share information about your profession, provide career mentoring, and offer exposure to an occupational field of interest.  In return you get an eager assistant to help out with substantive projects for a month!

New York City is Oberlin’s most popular destination for Winter Term interns and the students’ experiences reflect their diverse professional and personal interests.  Last year over 50 students excelled in fields such as art, music, theater, law, finance, education, social service, public policy, and publishing. We hope you will consider offering an internship of your own!

Nathan Elton, Associate Director in the Office of Career Services, will support you through the entire internship process and is available to answer any questions that you may have about drafting an internship description, developing intern roles and responsibilities, and selecting an intern.  He can be reached at: Nathan.elton@oberlin.edu or 440-775-8847.
