DEC 4, 7, 19
Jeffrey Young performs in NYC

Hi Friends,

I'll get to my shows this week in just a second, but first, thingNY, the dynamic group of composers and performers I play in, is selling tickets now for our big fat show on December 19! Please visit our website, www.thingNY.com, where you'll find a link to buy tickets and read about the rest of the great shows we have planned this season. December 19 will be awesome, featuring large ensemble works with a whole bunch of singers and dancers, as well as improvisation using paint. Oberlin people on my list should come catch former Obie Jonah Bloch-Johnson's sextet, accompanied on this concert by dancers.

Now for this week:

*Thursday, December 4 with Duane Pitre's Ensemble Drones: 8:30 PM @ Roulette, 20 Greene St, Manhattan

Brooklyn-based composer, performer, and improviser Duane Pitre's work explores chaos and discipline—and the relationship that exists between the two. Tonight Pitre presents Ensemble Drones - a rule-based, long-tone composition for 20+ performers (strings, winds, and brass along with bowed electric guitar played by the composer and harmonium) arranged in a formation that will partially encompass the audience. Ensemble Drones is an exercise in discipline and freedom, in the refinement of music, and in communal focus. Check out Duane's music at www.myspace.com/duanepitre.

*Sunday, December 7 with Manson Family Picnic: 8 PM @ Sidewalk Cafe, 94 Ave A, Manhattan

Back for our second show at the Sidewalk Cafe. Our first went very well! Apparently, we're opening this time for an entire night of ukelele players. Come for our craziness, stay for Hawaii's. Meanwhile, find MFP online, if somehow you haven't yet, at www.myspace.com/mansonfamilypicnic.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
Jeff

DEC 13
AMY X NEUBURG '85 PERFORMS AT ROULETTE

It's been 3 years since I have played in NYC and I do hope you can stop by! It would be great to see you.

From San Francisco: Amy X Neuburg, voice and live electronics
"Old songs, new songs, and new approaches to old technologies"

Saturday December 13, 8:30 PM
ROULETTE
20 Greene St. (between Canal & Grand)
Reservations/tickets: (212) 219-8242
Admission $15 / Students & seniors $10
Venue info at http://www.roulette.org
Amy is at http://www.amyxneuburg.com

Advance reservations recommended.

The show will consist of my solo 'avant-cabaret' songs for voice, live looping, electronic drums and processing. I'll also be introducing my latest work-in-development "The Dude Trilogy" for voice and Blippoo Box -- a very cute analog synth created for me by Dutch instrument designer Rob Hordijk and operated using hand motions and a Theremin-like antenna.

Also your own local anti-folk hero and discarded-technology geek Steve Espinola (Oberlin '89) will join me for an experiment in live looping using archaic recording gadgets.

Roulette is one of my favorite places to play -- great acoustics and always a nice crowd. Please come by and say hello.

Love and xx -- a

"Neuburg is a new kind of multi-threat composer... a wonder of sampling, overdubbing, and electronic manipulation of live sound, a fabulous singer... exhilarating originality. Nobody else sounds like Amy X. Some of the most compelling music being made today." -- Tom Strini, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
